Jan Helmer Olsen provides professional photography and film production services, with a deep passion for capturing spectacular moments in nature.
He has worked in film and photography since 2005 and has specialized in drone filming since 2010. Jan Helmer is approved by the Civil Aviation Authority for commercial aerial filming with drones.
His unique skills in drone photography and cinematography have led to assignments for major international clients such as Netflix, BBC, Maramedi, National Geographic, ARD German TV, NRK, TV2, and coverage of the Finnmarksløpet – the world's northernmost long-distance sled dog race.
Jan Helmer lives in Karasjok, Finnmark, deep within the Arctic Circle. The extreme weather conditions and Arctic light are a great source of inspiration for his work. He has extensive experience working in very low temperatures and during the polar night, giving his photos and films a unique character. His specialties include northern lights photography, documentation of Sámi culture and reindeer herding, as well as breathtaking aerial landscape photography.

Jan Helmer Olsen is a photographer with a special passion for the cold northern landscapes. His images capture the magical moments when nature reveals itself at its most dramatic and beautiful – from the mystical northern lights to the still winter mornings.
Jan Helmer has a unique ability to capture the essence of Finnmark and the deep connection of the Sámi people to nature, particularly in reindeer herding.
Using both camera and drone, he photographs from unique perspectives, and his aerial shots add a new dimension to the landscapes he portrays. Extreme conditions are his playground – he thrives outdoors in harsh Arctic weather, where the cold bites and the wilderness is untouched.
He finds his greatest inspiration when the cold sets in, and the world stands still. Through his lens, you get a glimpse into a landscape and culture that is constantly changing – a landscape where the forces of nature and human adaptation coexist side by side.
